A-POC ABLE ISSEY MIYAKE has unveiled new pieces made with New York-based contemporary artist Tomokazu Matsuyama under the TYPE-XII project. The collaboration matters because it extends the label’s “one piece of cloth” approach by turning Matsuyama’s layered visual artwork into wearable design, blurring the boundary between fashion and art.

The project began with limited-edition coats and T-shirts for Matsuyama’s 2025 Tokyo exhibition, FIRST LAST, and has now expanded into new coats. The garments use reconstructed versions of the artist’s work within A-POC ABLE’s textile process; the original exhibition featured about 40 works, including 15 large-scale pieces debuting in Japan. New items went on sale on 1 July, with a related exhibition in New York running from 9 July to 31 August.
