Pokémon Pokopia has sold more than five million copies, making it the second best-selling game on Nintendo Switch 2, according to a press release. Its performance is notable because it represents a comparatively unusual Pokémon spin-off focused on community-building and relationships between Pokémon, rather than the series’ traditional format.

The game’s sales equal roughly 21% of the Switch 2’s reported 23.68 million owners. It trails Mario Kart World, which has sold 15 million copies but was bundled with the console at launch; Pokopia has also received its first downloadable expansion, Bubbly Basin, with a second DLC adding Pokémon clothing and accessories planned for later in 2026.

  • Pokémon Pokopia has surpassed five million sales on Switch 2.
  • It is reportedly the console’s second best-selling game.
  • Further downloadable content is planned for 2026.

Pokémon is a long-running video game series in which players collect, train and battle fictional creatures. Most main Pokémon games centre on travelling through a region, competing against trainers and completing a catalogue of creatures, while spin-offs explore different styles of play.

Pokémon Pokopia is one of those spin-offs, focusing on building a community and forming relationships between Pokémon rather than on the usual battles and competition. Nintendo Switch 2 is Nintendo’s newer home-and-handheld console, and game sales are often used to judge how strongly major releases are attracting its owners.

Mario Kart is another of Nintendo’s biggest series, based around kart racing using Nintendo characters. Games included with a console can reach more players because buyers receive them when they purchase the hardware, making comparisons with separately sold games less direct.
