A Punk Rock Legend and Heavy Metal Icon Just Joined Forces for an Epic David Bowie Cover at Comic-Con, of All Places
During San Diego's Comic-Con, Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong's tribute project The Coverups hosted a surprise performance at the Hard Rock Hotel that brought together two rock generations. Iron Maiden vocalist Bruce Dickinson joined Armstrong on stage to tackle David Bowie's 1974 hit "All the Young Dudes," with the evening also featuring interpretations of Bowie's "Ziggy Stardust" and material from The Strokes and Tom Petty. The cross-generational collaboration demonstrated the appeal of cover-based performances within rock's established ranks.
The performances held additional significance as a remembrance. The previous week, Armstrong dedicated The Coverups' Nirvana cover "Drain You" to Jennifer Finch, L7's bassist who died following complications from brain cancer. Finch, aged 59, had endured multiple surgeries and setbacks during her illness. Her former bandmates released statements praising her creative impact and unwavering authenticity, describing her as a beloved figure whose influence extended across music and artistic circles.
