Groups of Old School RuneScape players have spontaneously organised a "religious war" in-game, dressing as followers of rival gods and staging mass raids into the game's dangerous player-versus-player Wilderness zone. The events, arranged through community social media rather than by the game's developer Jagex, tap into the MMO's long-standing lore of a war between deities, and highlight how player-driven roleplay continues to generate spontaneous large-scale activity in a game nearly 25 years old.

Over the past weekend, followers of the god Saradomin gathered at the Edgeville monastery clad in brown robes before marching into the Wilderness, besieging the Revenant Caves and ultimately claiming the Chaos Temple as their own. A follow-up clash is planned for the coming weekend on world 331, with an open call now issued to followers of the rival god Zamorak, who are being urged to defend the temple in red robes. There is no in-game reward on offer, such as valuable loot or experience points, meaning the raids are purely a fan-driven roleplaying event drawing on the game's God Wars storyline.
