A Sea of Thieves convention shuts down after people were apparently getting their drinks spiked with ‘unknown substance’

Destructoid · 1 day ago

SoTFest, a community convention dedicated to the pirate game Sea of Thieves, was forced to cut short its afterparty after the venue received reports that attendees' drinks were being spiked with an "unknown substance". The organisers alerted attendees through Discord and urged anyone with suspicions to contact staff immediately, highlighting safety concerns at a fan gathering that would ordinarily be a celebratory occasion.

The fifth annual SoTFest was held at the Bescot Stadium in Walsall, England, with the afterparty ended prematurely on 11 July. Organisers said there were reports of "potentially multiple" spiked drinks, and that event security was investigating and reviewing CCTV footage, with police apparently already aware. Anyone involved is to be banned from future events, attendees feeling unwell were told to go to hospital as soon as possible, and the hotel where guests were staying was also informed. As of reporting, no formal proceedings had begun and no statements had been issued by police or other authorities.
