Explained simply
Bass Reeves was a real lawman in the American West after the Civil War. He became known for working as a deputy US marshal, enforcing federal law across a large area that included what is now Oklahoma.
Reeves has also been the subject of recent television, including the live-action series Lawmen: Bass Reeves. Bass X Machina takes a more imaginative approach, placing a fictional version of him in a steampunk West, where steam-powered machines and supernatural forces shape the setting.
The new series is an animated science-fiction Western, with Brian Tyree Henry voicing Reeves and Janelle Monáe voicing his wife, Glory. Its story draws on the history of the post-Civil War United States while reworking it into a tale of bounty hunting and conflict.
