A Terrifying Survival Take On Jurassic Park Is Coming to Steam Next Week
Wilderdark, a dinosaur survival horror game from indie developer Team Junkfish, is due to launch on Steam on 10 November. It puts players on an island filled with infected creatures, offering a darker survival-focused alternative to dinosaur games centred on theme park management.
The protagonist searches the island for immortality, following in the footsteps of their vanished parents and others who sought its secrets. Players will gather resources, craft and set up camp, while photographing and scanning wildlife and plants; stealth matters because the organisms are dangerous. A free demo is available, though reviews have been mixed, largely because of technical problems in an older demo build.
In short
- Wilderdark launches on Steam on 10 November.
- The island’s dinosaurs and plants are infected.
- A free demo is available, with mixed reviews.
Explained simply
Jurassic Park helped popularise stories about people facing the dangers of living dinosaurs, while many later dinosaur games have focused on building and running theme parks. Survival horror takes a different approach, putting players in danger and making them manage scarce supplies as they explore.
In Wilderdark, players search an island for the secret of immortality, following the trail of their missing parents and others who came before them. They must find resources, make equipment and shelter, and study the island’s plants and animals while avoiding infected, dangerous creatures.
