The Singapore International Film Festival (SGIFF) has announced its 37th edition, which will honour Indian actor, director and producer Aamir Khan with the Screen Icon Award and present a special 25th-anniversary screening of "Lagaan." The festival opens with the South Korean thriller "The Assassin(s)" and will also award its top Cinema Honorary Award to celebrated Japanese filmmaker Kore-eda Hirokazu. The edition represents an expansion of the festival's scope, introducing new presentation formats, ticketing systems and programming sections designed to engage diverse audiences and support Asia's growing film community.

Over 25 Singapore productions and co-productions are featured in the lineup, many of which have won recognition at major international festivals including Cannes, Sundance, Venice and Berlin. The festival has reintroduced its Film Fund after a hiatus, with expanded grants programmes now supporting both feature documentaries and short films across Southeast Asia, with applications opening from 5 November to 5 December. Notable additions include a new Junior Explorers section with sensory-friendly screenings for younger audiences and an Undercurrent section featuring live performances, whilst the industry programme has been expanded into a resource centre for artists and filmmakers at all career stages.
