A new AP-NORC survey found that most Americans believe the war with Iran has not been worth fighting, signalling broad public opposition to a conflict that has lasted longer than initially expected. The findings may increase political pressure on President Trump and congressional Republicans, particularly ahead of November’s elections.

About two-thirds of US adults said the war, which began on 28 February, was not worthwhile; this included most Democrats and independents and 37% of Republicans. The poll was conducted from 23 to 27 July, during a pause in fighting after nearly two weeks of escalation in which US forces struck Iranian sites and Iran attacked US military facilities in the Middle East.
