Accel closes oversubscribed $550M India fund within weeks, 19 months after its last
Accel has closed a new $550 million India-focused venture fund, less than two years after its previous one, as part of a wider $3.5 billion global fundraising drive. The fund was oversubscribed and closed within weeks, despite Accel still holding over 55% of its prior $650 million India fund uninvested, signalling strong investor confidence in the firm's India strategy even amid a broader slowdown in global venture capital.
Accel expects to begin deploying the new fund's capital in 2027, continuing to invest from its existing fund until then. Partners at the firm say they see India's next growth wave coming not just from AI, but also consumer internet, fintech and advanced manufacturing, with AI acting as a horizontal technology underpinning these sectors rather than a category on its own; they highlighted opportunities in AI applications and enterprise software built atop existing models, citing portfolio company RapidClaims as an example. The move follows similar renewed India bets from rivals such as Peak XV Partners, which recently raised $1.3 billion for the region.
