Zara Larsson is not eligible for Best New Artist at the 2027 Grammy Awards, despite a reported discussion about submitting her for the category and her recent commercial breakthrough. The key reason is that she was already nominated as a performer at the 2026 Grammys for “Midnight Sun”, which disqualifies her under Recording Academy rules; the case also revives debate over how the category treats established artists who break through later in their careers.

Her fifth album, Midnight Sun, was released in September 2025 and falls within the 2027 eligibility period, while its title track and “Stateside” with PinkPantheress reached the Billboard Hot 100 in January 2026. Larsson, who has been recording for 13 years, said she did not want the “new artist” label because it would minimise that history; she has since left Epic Records after more than a decade and signed with RCA Records in July.
