Adobe is expanding its experimental iOS camera app, Project Indigo, with a suite of AI-powered features that critique users' photos and suggest edits, using large language models. Led by Marc Levoy, formerly behind Google Pixel's camera technology, the update reflects a broader industry push to make generative AI tools more useful for everyday photographers by offering deterministic, button-based outputs rather than requiring users to craft prompts themselves.

The new tools include a "photo critique" feature offering a professional-style assessment of framing, lighting, colour and emotional impact, alongside capture and edit suggestions that recommend reshoots or Lightroom-style adjustments. Other additions include advanced object removal with toggles for clutter such as people, wires and vehicles, AI-generated depth-of-field blur, and style transfer options like watercolour or ink-wash effects. The features, built on Google's Nano Banana model but potentially adaptable to Adobe's own Firefly, are housed in a new "AI playground" tab and are currently limited to select testers, with no guarantee of a full public release.
