Three Afghan nationals are on trial in Germany over the alleged gang rape of a 17-year-old girl in Dortmund, with one of the accused having fled to London before his arrest there. The case, now before Dortmund Regional Court, has drawn attention both for the severity of the allegations and for the fact that the suspects allegedly filmed the attack while laughing, as well as for one defendant's flight abroad before being caught.

Prosecutors allege Kambiz H., 25, Quais W., 20, and Burhanulla N., 19, approached the victim, from Hamm, at a Dortmund bus stop at 4am on 21 September 2024, persuaded her to go to an apartment and gave her alcohol until she lost consciousness, before assaulting her and recording the attack on a phone. All three men reportedly have prior police records for offences including robbery, assault and drug trafficking. The trial began on Thursday, with video evidence from a confiscated iPhone due to be shown and the victim expected to testify on the third day.
