After a year and a half of rigorous testing, Path of Exile 2 devs finally convinced Nvidia to fix a driver bug by sending it an entire PC

PC Gamer · 2 hours ago

Grinding Gear Games, the developer of Path of Exile 2, says Nvidia has fixed a long-running driver problem after the studio spent about 18 months investigating it and ultimately sent Nvidia a complete PC that reliably reproduced the fault. The issue caused severe pauses during extended DirectX 12 play, disrupting players and sometimes forcing recovery from a graphics-driver crash; the fix matters because it places responsibility in the driver rather than the game itself.

According to the report, Nvidia had struggled to reproduce the problem from conventional bug reports, despite extensive testing by the studio. Once it received the affected system, Nvidia identified the underlying shader-buffer issue and issued a GeForce hotfix, version 610.82, which specifically addresses intermittent long pauses in Path of Exile 2 under DX12; the change is expected to reach a normal driver release later.

  • Nvidia fixed a Path of Exile 2 DX12 driver bug.
  • Developers sent Nvidia a PC to reproduce it.
  • The fix arrived after roughly 18 months.
