After almost three years of early access, Enshrouded has hit 1.0 with a complete story, bigger map, and way too much more to mention

Rock Paper Shotgun ·

After nearly three years in early access, survival action RPG Enshrouded has reached version 1.0. The release completes the game’s map and main story, giving players a finished route through the world of Embervale and a broader set of activities.

Character progression now reaches level 50, with gear up to level 55, and found lore is fully voiced in English, German and Mandarin Chinese. The update also adds Sparkworks, a logic system for creating interactive gameplay in shared worlds, alongside new spells, combat and animation improvements, and visual changes to the biomes; the developers say the story is complete “for now”.

New here? Start with this

Enshrouded is a survival action role-playing game set in Embervale, a world players explore while gathering resources, fighting enemies and developing their characters. It was released in early access, meaning players could play it while its developers continued to build and update it.

The game is made by Keen Games, and its players can explore the world alone or with others in shared worlds. Its mix of survival, combat and exploration means that changes to the map, story and character progression affect how players experience the game.

A full release marks the point at which the developers present the main story and world as complete, though they say the story may continue later. Sparkworks also lets players create interactive systems in shared worlds, adding ways for players to shape their own activities.
