A sequel to soulslike game Wuchang: Fallen Feathers has been confirmed, with original creative director Xia Siyuan returning to lead development despite the collapse of the game's original studio, Leenzee. This matters because the project's future was in doubt after Xia departed Leenzee, which subsequently fell apart, leaving fans uncertain whether a follow-up to a game that had attracted over five million players would ever materialise.

Publisher 505 Games, owned by Digital Bros, acquired the Wuchang IP for roughly €4m in April and will now fund and globally publish the sequel, which is in its preparation phase. Development will be led by Indolphinity (Chengdu Recursive Dolphin Technology), the new studio Xia founded after leaving Leenzee, with work remaining based in China. Xia acknowledged criticism of the original game, promising to listen to player feedback and deliver "more polished quality and a more complete experience"; the first title, which launched on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, drew a mixed but largely positive reception, including a three-star Eurogamer review and "mostly positive" overall Steam ratings.

In short

  • Wuchang: Fallen Feathers sequel confirmed after original studio Leenzee's collapse
  • Original director Xia Siyuan will lead development at new studio Indolphinity
  • 505 Games funding and publishing; project now in preparation phase

How this story developed

  • 3 months ago A sequel to Wuchang: Fallen Feathers has been confirmed, with original creative director Xia Siyuan set to lead its development at his new studio Indolphinity, funded and published globally by 505 Games after the collapse of original developer Leenzee.

Explained simply

Fallen Feathers is a Chinese-made action role-playing game in the "soulslike" style, known for tough combat and a punishing learning curve. Since launching, it has drawn in more than five million players, but reception has been mixed, with reviewers and fans praising its combat and setting while flagging technical performance issues. Its creative director, Xia Siyuan, later left the studio behind the game, Leenzee, which subsequently collapsed, throwing the future of any follow-up into doubt.

Xia has since founded a new studio, Indolphinity, based in China. The rights to the Wuchang name were bought earlier this year by Italian publisher 505 Games, owned by Digital Bros, for around €4m, giving them control over how any sequel is funded and released worldwide.

This background matters because it explains how a game once thought to be in limbo, after its studio fell apart, has found a path forward, with the person who originally shaped its identity now positioned to lead the follow-up under new corporate backing.
