After the Avengers Fall, Marvel Will Introduce the Maximum X-Men | Comic Con 2026
Marvel Comics has announced Maximum X-Men, a new ongoing series in which the X-Men take on a global protective role after Avengers: Armageddon leaves the Avengers defeated and fragmented. The announcement suggests a significant shift in Marvel’s superhero line, with Storm’s team stepping into the leadership vacuum left by Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.
Written by Chris Yost and illustrated by Tony Daniel, the series will feature Storm, Wolverine, Colossus, Bishop, Iceman, Psylocke, Firestar and Justice. Maximum X-Men #1 is due in December 2026, and its first storyline centres on an invasion from the Negative Zone, with uncertainty over whether Annihilus is responsible. Marvel also teased a future Punisher role in Avengers and said Iron Man will publish twice monthly from December with two parallel storylines.
- The X-Men replace the fallen Avengers as Earth’s main defenders.
- Storm leads an eight-member team in Maximum X-Men.
- The new series begins in December 2026.
