Age Twisters is a genuinely charming co-op game hoping to bridge the generation divide – and one of my loveliest surprises at Gamescom
Age Twisters is an upcoming co-op puzzle-adventure from Barcelona-based Piccolo Studios, previewed by Eurogamer at Gamescom. Two players take on the roles of a grandfather and granddaughter who receive magic bracelets allowing them to shift between four life stages – child, teenager, adult and elder – each granting different abilities used to solve environmental puzzles. The developers, coming off two darker titles (Arise: A Simple Story and After Us), designed the game as a deliberately upbeat, accessible experience aimed at bridging generational stereotypes rather than lecturing players about them.
In the Gamescom demo, set largely in a chicken-filled factory, players in child form could swap places with chickens to progress, with simple, intentionally breezy puzzles designed to keep the game approachable. Each age brings distinct quirks, such as elderly characters struggling to climb obstacles or having slower dodge recoveries, and characters' in-game dialogue changes tone depending on their current age. There are no traditional respawns; instead, enemy attacks age characters up or down, turning them into a helpless baby or, if aged too far, a skeleton, with a co-op partner required to revive them – all delivered with a light, cartoonish sense of humour.
- Age Twisters is a charming co-op puzzle game shown at Gamescom.
- Players switch between child, teen, adult and elder forms to solve puzzles.
- Failure ages characters up or down instead of killing them outright.
