Agnieszka Holland Boards ‘The Tuners,’ About the Shadow Competition Behind a Piano Contest, as Executive Producer (Exclusive)
Agnieszka Holland has joined the documentary short *The Tuners* as an executive producer, alongside Polish actress and singer Joanna Kulig. The film focuses on the skilled work and quiet rivalry behind the International Chopin Piano Competition, where tuners’ choices can affect how instruments perform and may influence a pianist’s chances.
Directed by Pawel Chorzepa and produced by Joanna Chorzepa, the 22-minute film follows three tuners representing leading grand piano makers as they work to achieve the sound each pianist wants. It has won three Oscar-qualifying festival awards, been selected for DOC NYC’s shortlist and the IDFA market, and is due for a mid-November release through The New York Times Op-Docs.
