A 19-year-old Navy sailor jumped 67 feet from the USS Abraham Lincoln into the sea off Iran's coast on 3 August during an extraordinarily lengthy deployment, apparently attempting suicide after months of grueling conditions and deteriorating mental health. The incident has become emblematic of wider concerns about sailor welfare, particularly after Acting Navy Secretary Hung Cao revealed that eight sailors across the Lincoln Carrier Strike Group attempted suicide during the deployment.
