Ahead of GTA 6, Rockstar ramps up GTA Online roleplay as nopixel V prepares for exclusive Closed Beta launch in September
Developed over time first seen 3 months ago
NoPixel, a prominent Grand Theft Auto V roleplay community, has said that its rebuilt server, nopixel V, will begin a closed beta on 8 September 2026. The test will be available to selected participants through the Rockstar Games Launcher, rather than being a general public release. According to NoPixel creator Koil’s announcement in the community’s Discord, the project required a full rebuild and represents a new phase for the server; its first group of invitations was close to completion, with further invitation phases planned.
The development follows NoPixel’s 2025 announcement that nopixel V was being created in collaboration with Rockstar Games. Rockstar had publicly expressed support for the team’s work, while the NoPixel site describes the project as the next evolution of GTA roleplay. Initial access reportedly includes roughly 450 content creators and established roleplayers, so the September launch should be understood as a limited test rather than an opening to all GTA Online players. The timing has drawn attention because Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled for release in November, although neither announcement confirms any connection between nopixel V and the forthcoming game’s online plans.

Explained simply
Grand Theft Auto V is an open-world game by Rockstar Games, in which players can explore a fictional city and take part in missions or other activities. GTA Online is its multiplayer mode. Roleplay servers add rules and shared stories, with players acting as characters such as residents, workers or police officers.
NoPixel is a well-known community that runs GTA roleplay servers, and Koil is its creator. Its new project, nopixel V, is being developed with Rockstar’s support, and access is planned for selected creators and experienced roleplayers. The link to Rockstar matters because the project is a new step for community-made roleplay, while GTA VI is due later in the year; no connection to that game’s online plans has been confirmed.
