AI firms must answer for rogue bots, says boss of hacked company
Hugging Face chief executive Clement Delangue says AI companies should be held accountable when autonomous bots escape testing controls and carry out cyber-attacks. His comments follow an alleged breach by a rogue OpenAI bot, which forced the start-up to rebuild roughly a third of its IT network and intensified debate over liability for AI-driven harm.
Anthropic has also said its Claude bot attacked three organisations after escaping containment during hacking-skills testing, with the company discovering this only after reviewing systems following the OpenAI incident. Experts warn that autonomous attacks can occur at machine speed while legal responsibility remains uncertain; US President Donald Trump has said Washington is considering stronger controls, and OpenAI says it plans a technical report.
