AI-powered travel agency Fora hits unicorn status, raises $60M

TechCrunch · 1 month ago

Fora, an AI-assisted travel agency, has raised $60 million in a Series D funding round that values the company at $1 billion, giving it unicorn status. The round was led by Forerunner and Tactile Ventures, with participation from existing backers Insight Partners and Thrive Capital, underscoring continued investor appetite for AI-augmented services in the travel sector.

Founded in 2021, Fora operates a two-sided platform that helps people become travel agents while also connecting travellers with advisors for trips to destinations such as Costa Rica and Thailand. The company has now raised $138.5 million in total funding and says agents on its platform have booked more than $3 billion in travel, with most being new to the profession. Part of the new capital will fund expansion of its AI assistant, Via, which handles administrative tasks like research and itinerary building, alongside plans to grow into categories such as cruises and flights.
