Doncaster Sheffield Airport has committed £7m to a new radar system, its largest capital investment so far as it prepares to reopen. The installation is a significant step towards restoring passenger and freight operations after the airport closed in 2022, with the technology intended to support safe and reliable air traffic control.

Raytheon UK will install the RTX equipment next year; it is supplied by a company whose air traffic systems operate in 45 countries. City of Doncaster Council aims for a full reopening in April 2028, while consultation is under way on possible noise effects from flight paths. The airport employs more than 80 people and is projected to contribute £5bn to the regional economy by 2050.
