Alan Wake 2 Finally Clears 3 Million Sales, Overcoming Its Weak Start
Remedy Entertainment's survival horror sequel Alan Wake 2 has surpassed 3 million copies sold, marking a turnaround for a game that initially struggled commercially despite strong critical acclaim following its 2023 launch. The title had sold only around 1 million copies against a reported €70 million (roughly $76 million) budget, but sustained positive word-of-mouth has driven steady growth since, with the milestone disclosed in Remedy's half-year financial report covering January to June 2026.
The game passed 2 million sales in February 2025, the point at which it began turning a profit, with growth likely slowed by its continued status as an Epic Games Store exclusive on Windows PC. Remedy also noted the original Control has reached 5 million sales and is pinning hopes on its September 2026 sequel, Control Resonant, which has attracted over 1.5 million wishlists. The update comes amid a turbulent period for the studio, including a 23.1% revenue decline, a profit warning over the underperforming FBC: Firebreak, and the March 2026 appointment of new CEO Jean-Charles Gaudechon, whose remarks that Alan Wake and Control "should have sold more" have raised concerns about creative direction.
