The golf club has received substantial public support beyond the recent $6 million allocation, having secured $269,000 from the New South Wales government in 2025 specifically for sewage management and at least five additional federal grants worth over $56,000 since 2021 for items ranging from toilets and computer terminals to landscaping. All of these grants were awarded through the same non-competitive, invite-only mechanism, which the professor argued reflects political rather than public interest decision-making. The Senate inquiry will examine the infrastructure funding program's grant selection process, though legal obstacles mean Albanese and the infrastructure minister are unlikely to be compelled to attend the hearings.
