Amazon is updating Alexa Plus to let it carry out more complex smart-home requests across a broader set of devices. The move matters because it aims to make Amazon’s AI assistant more practically useful for controlling appliances and home technology, rather than simply issuing basic commands.

The update adds support for products from companies including Bosch, Delta, Ecovacs, iRobot, Yale Home, Whirlpool, Tapo and Eufy, using a new developer toolkit to handle device-specific capabilities. Amazon says a user could, for example, describe a cold-water deep-clean requirement for a football shirt and have Alexa select an appropriate washing-machine cycle. Alexa Plus launched widely in February, and Amazon is also adopting the Model Context Protocol to expand integrations with firms such as Canva, Headspace, Priceline, Lyft and Virgin Atlantic later this year.
