Alia Shawkat says she is actively trying to make the 2001–02 series State of Grace available on streaming services and to arrange a reunion with former co-star Mae Whitman. The effort matters to fans of the short-lived programme, but music-rights costs have so far prevented wider access to the original series.

Created by Brenda Lilly and Hollis Rich, State of Grace followed 12-year-old Hannah Rayburn and her family after their 1965 move to North Carolina, where she befriends wealthy Catholic girl Emma “Grace” McKee. It ran for two seasons on Fox Family/ABC Family, featured narration by Frances McDormand, and used prominent 1960s songs including the Lovin’ Spoonful’s “Do You Believe in Magic”; Shawkat said the expensive rights to that soundtrack are the main obstacle.
