Alien Deathstorm Is the Most Appropriately Named Game I’ve Ever Played

Polygon · 2 hours ago

Rebellion, the studio behind Sniper Elite, Zombie Army and Atomfall, unveiled a hands-on demo of its new alien shooter Alien Deathstorm at Gamescom 2026, and previewer impressions were strongly positive. The game drops players into a storm-battered off-world colony overrun by aliens, tasking them with uncovering what happened, rescuing survivors and escaping, and marks a shift towards faster, more action-focused combat than Rebellion's previous, more tactical titles.

The half-hour demo featured SMG-based combat and a late-game mission repairing a reactor across multiple non-linear locations, reflecting design influences from Sniper Elite's open level structure and Atomfall's investigative, player-driven objectives. Producer Martin Willingham said the finished game will run just 8-10 hours despite featuring crafting, weapon upgrades and sandbox-style levels, with enemy behaviour reacting dynamically to how aggressively or stealthily players approach encounters. Alien Deathstorm is due for release in spring 2027 on PlayStation 5, Windows PC and Xbox Series X.
