Alien: Isolation 2 Devs Tease New Protagonist, Planet Setting, and 1979 Film Roots
Creative Assembly says Alien: Isolation 2 will continue as survival horror, drawing on the atmosphere and design of Ridley Scott’s 1979 film. The sequel is planned for next year and returns to the same part of the Alien timeline, with a new protagonist and planet.
Project art director Ana Sopikova said the team studied behind-the-scenes photographs and original costume-making methods, working with 20th Century Studios’ archive. The Xenomorph is the same creature encountered in the first game, now on a new planet; the developers plan to add detail while retaining its original look.
In short
- The sequel is planned for next year.
- It introduces a new protagonist and planet.
- The 1979 film remains a central design influence.
Explained simply
Alien is a science-fiction horror series about people confronting a deadly extraterrestrial creature known as the Xenomorph. Ridley Scott’s 1979 film established its claustrophobic setting and distinctive creature design, while Alien: Isolation brought that atmosphere into a survival horror game.
Creative Assembly, the studio behind the first game, is making the sequel with 20th Century Studios, which holds the Alien film archive. The story remains in the same period of the series’ timeline, but follows a new protagonist on another planet.
The series’ look and atmosphere are central to how its stories are told. The developers have drawn on original film materials and costume-making methods, while keeping the creature recognisable to players of the first game.
