A Washington Post-Ipsos survey found that nearly two-thirds of Americans feel dissatisfied or upset about President Trump’s proposed and ongoing remodelling projects in Washington, including a White House ballroom, a redesigned Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool and a triumphal arch. The findings suggest substantial public resistance to efforts intended to leave a lasting physical mark on the US capital.

The poll of more than 2,600 adults, conducted from 8 to 13 July, recorded 65% expressing dissatisfaction or upset, compared with 32% who were enthusiastic or satisfied. The planned arch is 250 feet high, while the ballroom would replace the demolished East Wing; the Reflecting Pool renovation is also part of the wider programme.
