Explained simply
Amazon’s Echo range is a family of internet-connected devices, including speakers and screens, that use Alexa, Amazon’s voice assistant. People can use them to play music, set alarms, control compatible smart-home devices and get information by speaking to the device.
Amazon has released Echo products in several forms, from small speakers to larger displays. Some newer models add features such as a camera or a screen for showing photos, so the range serves different uses around the home.
The devices connect Amazon’s hardware with Alexa and the company’s wider services. Their availability matters to people considering an upgrade or a first smart-home device, as well as to developers and businesses that make services for Alexa.
