Altar: new London venue opening in Leytonstone with Simian Mobile Disco, Louis Theroux, Girl In The Year Above and more

NME ·

Altar, a new music and arts venue, bar and record shop, is due to open in Leytonstone on 23 October. Its programme brings established names and emerging performers together, as the organisers aim to make it a home for varied music and creative events in East London.

The free opening party will include DJ sets from Simian Mobile Disco and others, with entry on a first come, first served basis. Later events include Alexis Taylor of Hot Chip, Auntie Flo, Louis Theroux in conversation with founder Toby L, piano performances by Ed Harcourt and Suggs, and a set by Girl In The Year Above. Altar is also launching free rehearsal sessions, mentorships and performance opportunities for under-18s; War Child is its charity launch partner.
