Amazon has blocked Meta's Muse AI agent from making purchases on its platform, citing violations of its Conditions of Use. A popup warning appeared on Sunday for Muse users, with Amazon expressing concerns that Meta failed to disclose the agent's access to their store and did not identify itself when browsing. This action reflects Amazon's ongoing effort to prevent unauthorised third-party AI services from accessing its shopping ecosystem without permission or transparency.

According to Amazon's statement, the retailer was concerned about privacy and security risks, including the agent seemingly capturing customer credentials. Although Meta has claimed that Muse cannot access secure login details or payment card information, reports have emerged since the service's launch earlier this month suggesting the agent can view the contents of user messages without the necessary permissions granted. This move aligns with Amazon's broader defensive strategy, including a November lawsuit against Perplexity's Comet shopping feature (which a judge sided with Perplexity on in August) and the deliberate reduction of detailed product information in confirmation emails since July to limit data harvesting by external AI services.
