Amazon revives Lara Croft across two games and a Sophie Turner series
Amazon is expanding its investment in the Tomb Raider franchise with two new video games and a live-action television series, part of a broader push into classic British characters following its James Bond game "007 First Light". The move matters because it revives one of gaming's most iconic heroines, Lara Croft, across multiple formats, with actor Alix Wilton Regan providing the voice and performance capture for both games and Sophie Turner set to play Lara in the TV show.
The first game, "Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis", is a remake of the original 1996 title and is due in February 2027, followed later that year by an all-new adventure, "Tomb Raider: Catalyst", set across Northern India in the aftermath of a mythical cataclysm. Regan, who was cast in August 2022 and has worked on both games simultaneously since around 2024, teased that "Catalyst" would "blow people's minds" but revealed little else. She said she played Lara as slightly younger and more innocent in "Atlantis", drawing inspiration from the first three games, the Angelina Jolie films and Camilla Luddington's "Survivor" trilogy portrayal. Regan and Turner know each other socially from London and have discussed their respective castings.
