"American Idol" has been renewed for a 25th season, with the audition process for the singing competition set to begin on 25 August. The renewal continues the long-running franchise, which remains a key part of ABC's schedule, and kicks off with a virtual, nationwide search called "Idol Across America" spanning all 50 US states plus Washington, D.C.

Hopefuls must be 15 by 15 February 2027 to enter, with an initial round of producer auditions running from late August through late September before successful contestants progress to the judges' round. Video submissions will be accepted for those unable to attend their state's designated date. Season 24, which aired earlier this year, was won by Hannah Harper and featured judges Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie and Carrie Underwood alongside host Ryan Seacrest; the show is produced by Fremantle and 19 Entertainment, part of Sony Pictures Television.
