A former America's Got Talent contestant, Deshundre Vinson, 22, has been charged with first-degree murder and three counts of aggravated child abuse after his four-year-old nephew drowned while in his care in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The case has drawn attention partly because of Vinson's public profile as a member of the R&B trio Citi Limitz, which appeared on America's Got Talent and The Ellen DeGeneres Show, and partly because of the disturbing detail that the boy lay unnoticed underwater for around nine minutes.

Vinson had reportedly allowed the child and his six-year-old brother to walk unsupervised about 0.2 miles to their apartment complex's swimming pool while he was babysitting. Surveillance footage is said to show the boy slipping into the pool, struggling and sinking without anyone noticing, before being pulled out and given emergency treatment; he never regained consciousness and died five days later in hospital. Vinson was arrested and held on a $750,000 bond, with his next court appearance due on 8 September.
