Suno, an AI music generator facing copyright disputes over its training data, has reached a partnership and pre-emptive settlement with BMG. The agreement resolves potential claims over Suno’s past use of BMG-controlled music and is significant because it further shifts the company from confrontation with major rights holders towards licensed industry collaboration.

The deal covers BMG’s recorded-music and publishing businesses, with artists and songwriters expected to opt in to future training uses and receive payment. BMG represents or controls rights associated with artists including Jelly Roll, Mick Jagger, Bruno Mars, Tina Turner and Paul Simon, although some artists may refuse participation; Madonna’s manager has said she does not want her music used for AI training. Suno previously settled with Warner Music Group, while Universal continues its case against Suno, and a German court recently found the company infringed copyright through training on GEMA repertoire.
