Defender of the Crown, the medieval strategy game originally released for the Amiga about 40 years ago, has returned on PC as Defender of the Crown: The Legend Returns. The release matters because it preserves the original game while adding modernised presentation and a new roguelite-style mode, aiming to appeal to both longtime players and newcomers.

The original game, set in medieval England after a king’s death, involves building armies, capturing castles and jousting; it remains available with its pixel-art visuals. A revised Classic mode offers updated graphics and smoother mechanics, while the new Kingdom mode uses procedural maps, deckbuilding and dice-based combat as players defeat three enemy lords, unlock equipment and take part in activities such as tournaments, raids and sieges.
