Swedish death metal band Amon Amarth have announced their 13th studio album, "The Allfather Awakens", due for release on 2 October via Metal Blade Records. The 10-track record continues the band's long-standing thematic focus on Oden, the Norse god of war and wisdom, though it is not a concept album but rather a collection of historically inspired tales of conflict and sacrifice. The announcement matters as a significant release for one of Sweden's most enduring metal acts, marking a new songwriting approach for the group.

To coincide with the announcement, the band shared "Gjallarhorn", the album's fast-paced opening track, following the earlier release of their first-ever acoustic song "Upphaf". The album was written and recorded across two sessions at producer Jacob Hansen's studio in Denmark, beginning in spring 2025 and concluding in March 2026, with the band writing material while touring and completing each song individually before moving to the next. Other tracks include "Eight Legs Of Thunder", "Kvasir's Blood" and "Die With A War Cry", with cover art by longtime collaborator Tom Thiel.
