Among Shadows is a Nightreign-style dark fantasy RPG with a touch of Among Us that makes me think wistfully of Dark Souls at its most treacherous
Rock Paper Shotgun has previewed Among Shadows, an upcoming dark fantasy action-RPG that fuses Elden Ring: Nightreign-style co-operative combat with the social deduction mechanics of Among Us. Developed by TMXN Games, the title asks players to root out betrayal within their own party as they battle supernatural corruption, offering a fresh spin on the treachery already present in FromSoftware's games, such as Dark Souls 3's deceptive Mound Makers.
Players take on members of the Order of the Secret Fire, exploring a blighted region to hunt sources of corruption while looting and levelling up. When a "Blood Moon" rises, the group must escort a local Lord and their people to safety while fending off zombies, wraiths and other monsters, but one or more teammates is secretly a traitor working to spread the plague, set traps and kill other players; each night, participants can call a meeting to try to identify the culprit. The article's author is cautiously positive about the concept, despite viewing it as another example of developers combining currently popular gaming trends, and notes the game is due for release later this year.
