An Arizona man, Jason Hackett, 48, survived being bitten by a rattlesnake for the fourth time in four years after he went camping alone following an argument with his wife on their 20th wedding anniversary. Hackett, an amputee, was bitten on the calf by a western diamondback rattlesnake while urinating outside his camper in Perkinsville, and jokingly suggested the incident might be "karma" for leaving his wife that night.

He called his wife, who alerted emergency services, and he endured around 40 minutes of severe pain, cramping and burning sensations before Yavapai County Sheriff's deputies reached the remote site and arranged a rescue helicopter to Phoenix, where he received at least seven vials of antivenom and spent several days in hospital. Despite ongoing pain over a month later, Hackett says he will keep hunting and camping, though he now plans to wear protective snake chaps, and hopes to use his repeated near-misses to raise awareness of snake safety, echoing advice from the Arizona Game and Fish Department on staying alert outdoors.
