CCTV and police body-cam footage has captured the moment Luke Hurdowar, 23, stabbed a man twice with a large "zombie knife" in a targeted daylight attack in Ilkeston, Derbyshire, before a police dog helped bring him down. The footage shows Hurdowar pulling up in a grey Audi alongside the victim, whom he knew, before a fight broke out and he produced the blade, stabbed the victim and fled by car, leaving him bleeding on the pavement. The case has drawn attention both for the shocking nature of the assault and for highlighting the dangers of knife crime carried out in broad daylight near members of the public, including children.

The attack took place around noon on 26 June. After fleeing the scene, Hurdowar was later located nearby by Derbyshire Police but tried to escape on foot into a park; body-cam footage shows an officer and police dog Ultor pursuing him down an alleyway, where the dog dragged him to the ground. Hurdowar, of no fixed address, was arrested the following day and later pleaded guilty to wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and possession of a bladed article. He was sentenced to three years and nine months at Derby Crown Court on 2 September, with Detective Constable Danielle Causer warning that the effects of knife crime "are felt far beyond the immediate victims".
