Amy Madigan Latest To Join Tom Hanks & Callum Turner In Sony’s Baseball Film ‘The Comebacker’

Deadline · 15 hours ago

Oscar winner Amy Madigan has joined the cast of The Comebacker, Sony's upcoming baseball film starring Tom Hanks and Callum Turner, playing the owner of a New York Mets team. The film, based on a short story by author Dave Eggers, is directed by Marielle Heller from her own script, and marks another high-profile addition to a project that was reportedly fought over by three studios earlier this year.

Turner plays a young Mets pitcher whose life changes after being struck by a batted ball, with Hanks as his pitching coach and Patricia Clarkson as the coach's wife; Madigan takes the role of the club's owner. Production is due to begin in New York this autumn, produced by Gary Goetzman for Playtone alongside Heller and Leah Holzer, in cooperation with Major League Baseball and the Mets. Madigan recently won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for Weapons and has several other projects lined up, including Apple thriller Sponsor and Ryan Coogler's X-Files reboot.
