The theory gained attention after Xbox CEO Asha Sharma referred to the forthcoming RPG using an eight-asterisk subtitle, matching the eight letters in “Sentinel”, although Bethesda has not confirmed the name.

A number shown in Starfield’s character-creation screen, 190514-2009140512, can reportedly be split into alphabet positions to spell “Sentinel”; players say Bethesda intentionally changed it between the 2022 reveal and the 2023 release. Former Bethesda writer Michael Kirkbride appeared to endorse the theory online, while the speculation coincided with union protests over Xbox layoffs affecting ZeniMax staff; the game has no release date but is expected no earlier than 2028.
