A devastating flash flood tore through a settlement on the Nepal-Tibet border, with video showing a huge torrent of water and mud demolishing buildings within seconds as residents fled through nearby fields. The Bhote Koshi River suddenly surged this morning, leaving a 30-mile trail of destruction; at least 95 people have been confirmed dead in Nepal, with fears the toll will rise as search and rescue efforts continue.

Officials believe a 4.4-magnitude earthquake triggered an ice avalanche that blocked the Lhende river, causing water to build up before bursting downstream with catastrophic force, also destroying a land crossing at Gyirong Port in Tibet. More than 300 tourists and 90 Nepali citizens remain missing, including 12 Britons (among them a 13-year-old girl), 105 Indian nationals, 47 Americans, 17 Malaysians and four South Africans; many of the missing Indian nationals were reportedly on a pilgrimage to Mount Kailash in Tibet.
