Bentley is preparing to reveal the Torcal, its first fully electric car and a new entry-level model priced below the Bentayga. The vehicle matters because it marks the marque’s shift from plug-in hybrids to a battery-only offering while attempting to preserve the refined, emotionally engaging character associated with its large combustion-engined cars.

The Torcal shares underlying engineering with the forthcoming Porsche Cayenne EV, with Bentley targeting 300 miles of EPA range, 600km under WLTP testing and 400kW rapid charging. It is expected to produce more than 850PS and 1,000Nm of torque, prioritising smooth, readily usable performance over headline power figures. To retain a sense of occasion, Bentley has created a subtle V8-inspired sound using drummers recreating the engine’s firing pattern, while active 48V suspension is intended to deliver Flying Spur-like ride comfort.
