The Toronto International Film Festival will host the world premiere of "Nosotros," the feature directorial debut of Guatemalan producer Joaquín Ruano, whose credits include "Our Mothers." The film follows Romero, an Indigenous security guard who relocates from Guatemala's highlands to the capital, exploring themes of identity, class and belonging as he adjusts to an unfamiliar urban environment marked by loneliness and a "performative macho" culture. Hollywood Reporter has exclusively released the trailer ahead of the film's debut.

The drama, starring Josef Coxaj as Romero and Lola Vásquez as Nubia, a transgender small business owner he meets and falls for at the mall he patrols, also features Mayra Salvador and touches on the lasting effects of Guatemala's civil war. Described in press notes as an intimate portrait of connection amid racism, transphobia, economic inequality and rigid ideas of masculinity, the film was written and directed by Ruano, shot by Paolo Girón and edited by César Díaz, with FiGa Films handling sales. "Nosotros" premieres on 12 September in TIFF's Discovery programme.
