Xbox Series X runs four PS5 games through limited emulator research project

Engadget ·

Developer Devran Cosmo Uenal has demonstrated PS5X, an Xbox Series X port of the KytyPS5 emulator, running four PlayStation 5 games. The project shows that PS5 software can run on Microsoft’s console, but its limits mean it is currently a research effort rather than a practical way to play most modern PS5 releases.

PS5X works only in Microsoft’s Developer Mode, which limits games to 5GB of memory, compared with 13.5GB available to a retail Series X game. It currently runs GEX Trilogy, Hellboy: Web of Wyrd, Marvel Cosmic Invasion and Quake II; some have sound, and Quake II reportedly reaches about 25 to 45 frames per second. There is no public download, and the games demonstrated are also available on other platforms.
