Andrew Garfield Leads ‘The Uprising’: First Trailer For Paul Greengrass’ Focus Features Drama On 14th Century Peasant Rebellion

Deadline · 1 month ago

Focus Features has released the first trailer for The Uprising, a drama directed by Paul Greengrass and starring Andrew Garfield, dramatising the English Peasants' Revolt of 1381. Garfield plays Ploughman, the rebellion's legendary leader, who raises an army of ordinary people to resist King Richard II's oppressive taxation and forced labour. The project positions itself as a likely awards contender and marks another historical epic from Greengrass, known for tense, real-world-inspired filmmaking.

The film is set for release on 11 September 2026, with Greengrass also writing the script and producing alongside Jason Blum, Gregory Goodman, Joanna Kaye, Joe Neurauter and Lars Sylvest. The trailer shows Garfield's character rallying peasants crushed by unpayable taxes and endless toil before leading them in revolt towards London. The cast also includes Jamie Bell, Stephen Dillane, Tom Hollander, Cosmo Jarvis, Thomasin McKenzie, Jonny Lee Miller, Woody Norman, Katherine Waterston and Sky Yang.
